Silent Night

Silent night, holy night!
All is calm, all is bright.
Round yon Virgin, Mother and Child.
Holy infant so tender and mild,
Sleep in heavenly peace,
Sleep in heavenly peace

Silent night, holy night!
Shepherds quake at the sight.
Glories stream from heaven afar
Heavenly hosts sing Alleluia,
Christ the Savior is born!
Christ the Savior is born

Silent night, holy night!
Son of God love’s pure light.
Radiant beams from Thy holy face
With dawn of redeeming grace,
Jesus Lord, at Thy birth
Jesus Lord, at Thy birth

Neon Favors

Sting

Let me get this straight…

In The Hobbit & The Lord of the Rings (LOTR) books/films, the Elves created Bilbo’s short sword (to the Elves, a dagger) Sting, a semi-magic weapon that glows brilliantly in blue whenever orcs or goblins are nearby.

Basically, if you are trying to hide from nearby orcs or approaching goblins, the damn thing glows neon blue letting them know exactly where you are?

So are the benevolent Elves doing you a favor? Or the Orcs?

And while we’re at it…

How does anything sneak up on anything on Pandora? Every time you touch anything—the trees, moss, fauna, flora, even an insect—it pulses with fiber optic brilliance, giving away your position instantly.

This is like trying to sneak up on someone in Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean” video.

Medical Marijuana

I have been reading a lot of articles lately which seem to suggest (some convincingly so) that medical marijuana helps arrest seizures, smooth speech for people who suffer from disorders that make speaking difficult, and restore a measure of body control to people afflicted with extreme ticks and spasms.

I recognize that even if these claims are true (and I certainly hope they are) medical marijuana is not a cure for all ills. But even if it is a cure for these select disorders alone it is the moral obligation of their countrymen, us, to permit them access to natural cures (in this case cannabis) for their disabilities.

I also recognize most people who want marijuana are not disabled in the least—for them I have less understanding and honestly, a disinterest in their excuses. But for the legitimately injured I have inexhaustible empathy.

So, if it proves out that marijuana legitimately helps people with seizures and other real disabilities…

Someone with power should begin a thorough investigation to determine if marijuana was originally criminalized (whole or in part) merely to outlaw natural cures for many of our ills, so that pharmaceutical companies and callous medical cartels could create a synthetic version of it, and charge our sick friends and families exorbitant and impoverishing prices for an engineered substitute for a cure they could have gotten out of the ground…

for free.

For anyone to criminalize a natural drug only to turn around and manufacture and sell a synthetic (read here: patented) version of it merely for profit is the medical equivalent of treason.
